This is the first time I've written a letter.
I'm more or less okay. I'm even getting a little bit used to being alone.
In the park at night on the way home, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom,
and I thought of you.

Floating against the pitch black sky, the cherry blossoms seemed to be gasping.
The world is touched with a slight rising fever, and so the scenery appears distorted.
If, perhaps, love is to blame, then someday surely we too will be short of breath.
On our deathbeds, buds will bloom.

Hello, hello, can you hear me?
Can I be myself?
A flower petal in my praying hands. As if they'd been touched by you. (1-a)

In brilliant colour and sound the cherry blossoms bloom.
I follow after your voice. Spilling towards me, the pieces of love.
If you look up, you'll see the spring flowers fall (2)

I feel the warm breeze beginning to blow. A spring storm is on its way.
(The flowers) bloom like mad things, but it is their fate to someday fall.
In many ways, love is the same, at some point we were exactly like those flowers
I remember this, and laugh in spite of myself.

Hello, hello, where are you?
Is there anything I can do?
A flower petal in my searching hands. As if they'd been touched by you. (1-b)

In brilliant colour and sound the cherry blossoms bloom.
Our hands, once linked, draw further apart. Spilling towards me, a thousand wishes.
If you look up, you'll see the spring flowers fall

The cherry blossoms scatter as if dancing, obscuring your face
I am almost awake from this fleeting dream, and that which spills over is tears---

In brilliant colour and sound the cherry blossoms bloom.
Everything that was important to me, I will bury (in blossoms) under this tree.
Before my eyes, the spring where we'll say goodbye
If you look up, you'll see the spring flowers fall

Onto me, onto me, softly

Notes
(1-a) He seems to be associating the delicate, beautiful quality of a flower petal with the now-absent "you"; it's as if he's saying in this instance, I was praying, but now I find a petal in my hands and it makes me think that you've touched me. (1-b) is similar to this. (2) The Japanese is more concise than this. It's "hana furu haru", literally "the flowers-fall spring". So really, it should be, "If you look up, it's the flower-falling spring", but you and I both know that sounds worse than what I had originally.
